Who Did You Vote For?

On Tuesday, I woke up feeling a little extra American. It was mid-term election day and I was going to exercise my right to vote. Since it was a nice autumn day, I decided to take a stroll down Main St. to Borough Hall where I would help determine the political direction our country would be heading for the next couple of years. Walking on the historic brick sidewalks of Upland, past some of the old colonial houses, along the stone walls that line Main St., I was struck with a real sense of history and I couldn't help but wonder how many other people took this same path since this town was established in the late 1600's. It was a strange feeling. I was even a little nervous as I entered the building and checked in.

I was pleasantly suprised to see, as I entered the voting booth, that I would be casting my vote on an electronic machine as opposed to those archaic, cumbersome machines I've used since I registered. After reading the poorly worded first question pertaining to compensation for veterans a few times to understand it properly, it was time to vote. In this election, as in most cases, I leaned heavily towards the democratic canidates with the exception of the Congressional seat which I went republican. I double checked my choices and pressed the green button labeled vote. I guess that's it. After all the buildup, the whole process was kind of a let down.

That's when I started wondering. Why is there never any proof of this transaction? I buy a pack of gum at a CVS and I get a receipt. I vote for the leaders of this state and country and I get nothing. How do I know for sure my vote registered? What stops certain people from "misplacing" a few votes? What happens when the power goes out and you can't use electronic voting machines? I vote for voting receipts.

This is Fat Baby Leg on one of those lame psuedo-talent shows called Star of Tomorrow. Every once in awhile you find some real talent like FBL. I first heard about this guy about a month ago on the Kidd Chris Show. Genius. Columbus Day is such a bogus "holiday."

COWARDS

I hate people who shoot up schools, especially Amish schools. Each incident is equally tradgic, but the latest murders at the one room schoolhouse in Lancaster County, PA (ironically in a town called Paradise) made me physically sick. Who do the Amish ever bother? The pictures in the Delco Daily Times are heartbreaking. Two more girls who were in critical condition died today as a result of the shooting. Thoughts and prayers go out to the families of all the victims.

If you're gonna kill yourself, kill yourself. Stop taking innocent lives with you. Everybody is depressed or angry about something. I wish these crybabies were still alive so i could punch them in their weak-willed faces.

Tired of Being Gas Raped

Well, Exxon's 2nd quarter earnings are in:

$10.36 BILLION

This is the second-highest earnings report ever in a quarter for a U.S. publicly-traded company.

The highest ever earnings report just so happens to belong to this same crooked company whose fourth quarter earnings in 2005 totaled:

$10.71 BILLION

With oil prices on the rise, Exxon's revenue increased 12% to:

$99.03 BILLION

Average Americans (me) continue to be crippled by rising gas prices and God forbid you are a small business owner who depends on motor vehicles such as landscapers or any kind of delivery service. These people, rightfully so, have to pass this cost on to consumers (me) so we are being screwed double by oil company greed.

In the Daily Times Solomon Leach writes:

John Felmy, chief economist at the American Petroleum Institute, which represents the oil industry, contended the earnings are not out of line with other industries.

"If you look at the profit rate on a dollar, it's about 9 cents right now," he said. "That's only slightly above the average on manufacturing industries."

This argument doesn't hold water. It's like comparing apples to oranges. The price for a gallon of milk and a gallon of gas might be similar, but the average consumer doesn't buy 10-20 gallons of milk at a time. And "slightly above average" is still ABOVE AVERAGE.

I know this has all been said before, but it just makes me furious every time I read about it. My a-hole is sore.

I'm glad Zidane did this even before I found out what was really said to provoke this sweet headbutt.

If this never happened the World Cup final wouldn't have received half of the news coverage it did in the U.S. Aside from the obvious sports outlets like ESPN, there were whole segments devoted to this brilliant display of manhood on CNN, MSNBC, local news channels, and other programs that otherwise would have said two sentences about the World Cup and moved on to other boring news.

Zidane and his Golden Head might be the most effective tool to promote soccer in the states since Pele.

Long live ZZ.

What a loser. How dare you come out in a 4-5-1 when you know you have to score goals and WIN the game? One striker Bruce? It was working so well for you in the previous two games, I don't understand what happened. We hadn't even scored one goal for ourselves and I think we had one shot on goal up to that point. Waiting till the 60th minute to put in Eddie Johnson and later Bobby Convey? Nevermind the fact Johnson should have started the game with him and McBride in a 4-4-2, why does he not immediately start the second half? Why do you look like a monkey? Why do you look like the guy who owned Studio 54 and died of AIDS (what was his name)? WHY, WHY, WHY???

All right, now that I got that out, Arena did do alot for US Soccer, but he pissed it all away in two weeks. Eight years is way too long for one coach. His roster decisions were questionable at best. Maybe if we have Taylor Twellman, one of the leading goal scorers in the MLS, we put a couple more in the net and have some results. Clint Dempsey, our lone goal scorer who also plays his club ball in the MLS, proved to be the best player on the team. Enough about the team and the coach. Until 2010............via con dios.

One more thing, WE GOT SO FRIGGIN HOSED BY THE REFS! The fix was in. I know we're not exactly loved by all the other countries in the world, but did they have to make it so obvious. I thought I was watching the NHL with all the goddamn penalties (and phantom penalties) that were called. According to BBC Sports World Cup Statistics:

In 42 games there have been 212 yellow cards and 14 red cards with a 5.05 yellow card to game ratio. Que ridiculo!

I'm exhausted.

Summa, Summa, Summatime...............

I just sit back and unwind. Happy summa! Man, it's been a while. I think this summer will be a good one. The energy feels right. I recently had a birthday(27th), the World Cup is happening, the US plays tomorrow morning and is still alive in the tourney, bbq's and good beer with great and generous friends, stupid arguments as a result of me being a selfish and drunk a-hole (that's not really a positive but it needs to be mentioned), realizing what's really important in life: family (my newest niece Emily, my nephew Zack, my godchild Tyler) and friends you can count on.
I'm trying to live a little more healthy these days but often encounter some minor setbacks. Lauren and Gootman (Lootman as the press refers to them) are moving into a house soon and expecting a little one.

Hopefully the job ting happens soon so I can have some funds to have fun this summer. Beach anyone?

School is out and I ain't been on the court yet. Hustle to the mall to get me a short set. Yea, I got on sneaks but I need a new pair cause basketball courts in the summer got girls there.

What I'm Watching: WORLD CUP, Entourage, Blowin' Up w/ Jamie Kennedy (hilarious)

What I'm Reading: Get Shorty (Elmore Leonard might be the coolest writer ever if you're into the crime genre. He also wrote Be Cool, The Big Bounce, Rum Punch a.k.a. Jackie Brown, all made into movies. The book is always better. I seriously plan to read everything he ever published.)

Latest Idea(that I think is worth pursuing): Padded baby clothes. An entire line of baby clothes with pouches sewn in the knees and elbows where a thin foam pad can be inserted. If you've ever seen football pants you know what I mean. The pads are interchangable with each outfit. It would be geared mostly towards infants learning to crawl but would also include toddlers. I googled padded baby clothes and the closest thing was a product called crawlies.
If Under Armour happens to read this I'm offering the idea for a small fee. They already have a line of under shirts with rib padding for adults, just make a line for infants and call it Baby Armour and market it to athletes with kids. Man, someone needs to hire me.

Crash............a Trainwreck

All right, maybe it wasn't that bad, but it wasn't that great. I finally saw Crash yesterday and was a trifle disappointed. For the past six months I've been trying to see this movie after hearing all the positive feedback from everyone. 'It's such a good movie' this and that yadda yadda but just because a movie is directed in reverse sequence doesn't make it good. I could tell you the events of my day today in reverse sequence and it would still be completely dull. The entire story was ridiculously unbelievable to me. The chances of each character's lives intertwining in the way they do are nill. Come on, seriously, the girl the cop practically raped is the same girl he has to save from a burning car? Oh, what a dilemma. The "good cop" gives a ride home to the "educated gangsta" and ends up shooting him. Get out of here. This is how you diffuse that stressful situation:

Gangsta(laughing): People are funny.
Cop: Why, cause I'm white?
Gangsta: No, I see you have a St. Christopher's medal. Look, I also have one in my pocket.
Cop: Wow, that's pretty cool.
(End of Scene)
And who picks up hitchhikers nowadays anyway? Then you have the "Arab" whose store gets robbed and automatically it's the "Mexican's" fault. Yea, definitely couldn't have been anyone else so I'm going to go to the guy's house to shoot him in broad daylight when he's holding his daughter in his arms. Noone witnessed any of this by the way? Show me a store that doesn't have a surveilance camera. If this small business was his whole life you'd think he would have invested a little more money in security. If you just fixed the door as suggested all of this would have been avoided.

Finally, Paul Haggis, the guy who wrote this seems like just another bleeding heart liberal (see also Michael Moore). Boo hoo, people are racist, the LAPD is corrupt, blah, blah, blah. Racism does suck, but it will probably be a part of life for a long time. Some cops are corrupt, but sadly it's a necessary evil. It is essential for their survival in many cities across the country. What does Paul Haggis know about racism anyway? I don't know the guy personally, but I bet he hasn't been pulled over a whole lot in his life for being black. He's from Ontario, Canada for Christ's sake. The only other oscar nominee I saw was Walk The Line and that was a thousand times better than this movie. Johnny Cash has been snubbed once again.

These immortal words spoken by Ack Ack in the brilliant movie One Crazy Summer will be my mantra for the next 35 days. I see I have some supporters/challengers who only make me want it more. The first couple days have been spent monitoring my diet and doing some light cardio. The next couple weeks will be crunch time. A strict diet and heavy exercise are only gonna make my pockets fatter. Let the games begin.

20 Pounds in 40 Days

Wednesday was Ash Wednesday, a time of sacrifice commemorating JC's 40 days spent wandering in the desert. So I decided I wanted to make a sacrifice of my own. I am not a gung-ho catholic, or even practicing for that matter, but I need a challenge or goal to work towards since things have been pretty stale lately. It's not so much a spiritual thing but rather an exercise in self-control and self-discipline. I propose to lose 20 pounds in 40 days or March 1st till April 9th. As some added incentive, monetary wagers will be accepted and are encouraged.
